Best known for its ultra-comfortable leggings, lululemon Athletica has cultivated a fiercely loyal community around its fashionable, functional, yoga-inspired apparel—including the popular Align pants. “I cannot explain how often I am fixing or adjusting my tights while teaching or training. I never once do this with the Align lululemon tights,” Ingrid S. Clay, creator of ISC Wellness, PROPTA-certified personal trainer, group fitness instructor, and plant-based chef, says. “They stay in place and are unnoticeable, meaning they allow me to move in a way that’s freeing and I’m not as self-conscious.”

While lower-cost options are available, they often have a shorter lifespan and need to be replaced more frequently. The premium price tag on lululemon leggings comes with a commitment to quality, fit, and an unmatched customer experience. (Plus, we have some tricks for navigating the lululemon "We Made Too Much" section.) lululemon leggings are also made with high-grade fabrics that retain their shape, elasticity, and color over time, making them great for exercise as well as lounging.

To find the best pairs lululemon has to offer, we tested over 20 pairs of leggings at home. After weeks of workouts, washes, and wears, we evaluated each legging based on material, price, breathability, compression, and more. We also had a yoga and Pilates instructor from our Review Board review this article for accuracy and which features to look for in leggings for different types of workouts. Below, find the best lululemon leggings that we think are truly worth the cost:

Pros
  • Three pockets

  • Supportive

Cons
  • May be too thin for some

The Align High-Rise Pant with Pockets is our top overall pick because it has three pockets, light all-over compression, and a supportive, secure fit. The Aligns have long been a favorite of many lululemon customers, and it’s easy to see why, since they earned a perfect score of 5 out of 5 for every key attribute we tested for.

During our test, we found that the breathable Nulu fabric made this pair easy to put on and take off. We also liked the light compression, and that the high-rise waistband stayed in place during sweaty cardio workouts. Plus, we noticed that the bright colors weren't sheer and remained completely squat-proof, even after repeated washes (a plus if you like to wear your leggings every day).

And with three roomy pockets, the Align Pant features plenty of places to store your essentials while you work out. But unlike the Invigorate High-Rise Tight, it’s thinner—we noted that underwear lines did show through, so you may want to wear a seamless pair underneath. We recommend these leggings for yoga and other low-impact activities.

Pros

Cons
  • Only one pocket

If you’re searching for leggings with just the right amount of compression, we recommend the Wunder Train High-Rise Tight, which also earned a perfect overall score in our test. They come in a range of inseam lengths, so you can be sure you’re getting the right fit. And they’re made from lightweight Everlux fabric—a blend of nylon and Lycra elastane—which quickly wicks away sweat, leaving you cool and comfortable.

We noticed that the fit ran true to size, although this pair may feel tight if you’re not used to wearing compressive leggings. We love the interior drawstring, which helped keep the leggings in place during high-impact workouts. And we appreciated that, like the brand's breathable underwear for working out, they can be thrown in the washer and the dryer after each wear (unlike many other pairs of lululemon leggings on our list).

These versatile leggings feel soft on the outside and cool on the inside. They’re great for almost any kind of training, including high-impact activities, although they only have one hidden pocket in the waistband. If you love lululemon's Wunder Train fabric but want more storage, we've also tested the Wunder Train High-Rise Tight with Pockets, which has many of the same features we love in the original.

Pros

Cons
  • May be too thin for some

Stretchy with superior moisture-wicking, we recommend the All the Right Places Drawcord leggings for anyone wanting a versatile, lightweight pair. They feature three pockets—one on each side and a third in the waistband—so you can keep your phone and keys close by. Plus, there aren’t any seams in the front for a smooth fit and feel.

We were impressed by the performance fabric, which we found was similar to the discontinued Train Time legging, if you’ve been searching for a replacement. And we loved how flexible these leggings are, noting that they’re ideal for high-impact activities, like running. We also liked that they offered a custom-like fit, stretching and moving with us without sagging.

We did notice that this pair was thinner and slightly less opaque than other lululemon leggings we tested, including the InStill High-Rise Crop. But with light compression, this pair is still supportive and comfortable enough to wear for long periods of time.

Pros

Cons
  • Only one pocket

Breathable and buttery soft, we recommend the Align High-Rise Pant for anyone who practices yoga regularly. Brushed fibers make this pair feel smooth to the touch and almost weightless. They’re durable enough for daily wear, and a secure fit ensures you won’t be pulling them up or down while trying to balance on your mat.

We found that the Nulu fabric was beyond comfortable and flexible, without feeling too thin. Even in a light color, we noticed that this pair was completely squat-proof—so you can focus on holding your balance. We also liked that the high-rise waistband felt supportive and secure, instead of suffocating.

While the Align High-Rise Pant comes in a wide range of sizes and bright colors, it does only have one hidden pocket in the waistband, so we recommend grabbing a gym bag for toting the rest of your gym essentials. If you're looking for leggings with more storage, try the Swift Speed High-Rise Tight, which has two deep side pockets and another zippered pocket for stashing your stuff.

Cons
  • Waistband may slide down

Many lululemon leggings have pockets for on-the-go storage. But when you need extra room, we recommend the Swift Speed High-Rise Tight. This pair has two side drop-in pockets, plus another zippered pocket in the back, so you can exercise with your phone (and keys, and cards) confidently.

The Luxtreme fabric had a smoothing quality we loved. We also liked the Swift Speed Tight’s total opacity and durability, even after a few washes. But our favorite feature was the interior drawstring. As the pants occasionally started to slide down, we could easily tighten the drawstring to restore the leggings’ snug fit.

While the waistband may not stay in place during all kinds of activities, the reflective elements and lack of inseam makes these leggings a reliable staple for running and other high-impact activities. (Searching for a no-budge waistband? The Invigorate High-Rise Tight is one of our top picks.)

Pros
  • Durable fabric

  • No inseam

  • Interior drawstring

Cons
  • May have too much compression for some

For high-intensity workouts like running or exercising outdoors in warm weather, we recommend the Base Pace High-Rise Crop. Lululemon’s Nulux fabric has superior sweat-wicking abilities, so they’re ideal for running. And there’s no inseam, which cuts down on potential irritation and chafing.

We found that these leggings offer plenty of compression. We enjoyed wearing them while running, but found they might be too tight for lounging. However, they’re durable, with no signs of wear between the inner thighs even after we went on multiple runs. And we liked the secure, high-rise waistband, which didn't slip or roll down.

These leggings pair well with the Base Pace Ribbed Tank Top. But although they're a sturdy, reliable pair, they only have one pocket in the back. For runners who want more storage, we recommend the Fast and Free High-Rise Crop.

Cons

Avid runners need a pair of leggings with a secure fit that will stand up to constant use. We found that the Fast and Free High-Rise Crop checks all of these boxes, and then some.

This pair features seven deep pockets—the most of any lululemon leggings on our list. And we liked that the compression provided extra support while we ran. Plus, there’s an interior drawstring for a close fit that won’t budge.

This pair does have a tighter waistband that may take some getting used to, especially if you fill the pockets before exercising. But even after multiple washes, we realized that these durable leggings were still comfortable and cooling. (It's also worth noting that, while we didn't test these, a full-length pair is also available.)

Pros
  • Interior drawstring

  • Secure, foldover pockets

  • Reflective elements

Cons
  • Waistband may be too tight for some

Compressive with an adjustable fit and secure pockets, the SenseKnit High-Rise Running Crop is our pick for the best pair of cropped lululemon leggings. We noted that the fabric was both soft and sculpting, with a 23-inch inseam length that should hit mid-calf on most people.

Even through runs, yoga classes, and weightlifting sessions, we noted that the waistband never slipped or moved around. The Sense Knit Running Crop also has fold-over envelope pockets, which protects your valuables without the added bulk of a zipper. The brighter colors are completely opaque, for a worry-free workout.

We did notice that the waistband felt tight, since these leggings are so compressive. It was also difficult to adjust, once we tightened the drawstring. But since the fit was so secure, we think these minor flaws are a solid trade-off. (Pro tip: If you love wearing two-piece workout sets, try the matching SenseKnit Running Tank Top.)

Pros

  • Wide range of colors and sizes

  • Extra sturdy waistband

Cons
  • May run small for some

If your workout routine involves lots of resistance training, we recommend the Invigorate High-Rise Tight. This pair has a thicker waistband and can be machine-dried, so they’re easy to reach for on a daily basis.

We especially liked the fit, which was supportive and compressive. We also noted that the material felt thicker, making these opaque leggings ideal for weightlifting. The side pockets on the side are deep enough to securely stash your phone while you listen to your favorite playlist. And the legs and waistband won’t budge, no matter how sweaty you get.

We did notice that the thicker fabric and long length may make these leggings a better choice for indoor workouts—and the compression may mean you need to go up a size. However, we loved how flattering the seams were.

Pros
  • Unique, stirrup design

  • Multiple ways to wear

  • Breathable mesh inserts

Cons
  • Mesh may not hold up over time

  • Waistband may slide down

For stylish leggings with a crossover waist and a sleek silhouette, the Nulu and Crisscross Mesh Stirrup Tight is our top pick. They’re soft, silky, and breathable, thanks to mesh inserts at the waist and the calves.

We liked how comfortable this pair felt. But we noted that the waistband was prone to rolling down over time, scoring them a 3.5 for hold. We also found that the mesh felt thin, like it might rip or fray over time. But the stirrup feature means this versatile pair can be worn in a few different ways, and the material at the upper thighs and butt is completely opaque.

These leggings are ideal for yoga and other low-impact activities, or for just lounging in comfort. Choose from basic black or a bright bronze green that can transition from summer to winter. Love lululemon's Nulu fabric, but not the mesh? Try our best overall pick, the Align High-Rise Pant with Pockets, instead.

Pros

Cons
  • May be too long for some

lululemon's Groove High-Rise Split-Hem Flared Pant Nulu isn't just great compared to others from the brand—they're our favorite out of every pair of flare leggings we've tested so far. When we first tried them on in The Verywell Testing Lab, we were surprised by how soft and lightweight the Nulu material felt. We also love how comfortable they are, flexing and moving with us as we walked, worked out, and ran errands.

Although they're thin, we found that these leggings are completely opaque, so you can wear them from the gym to the grocery store confidently. And with a high-rise waistband that doesn't slip or roll down, we like that we never have to worry about readjusting them.

Best for low-impact workouts like yoga, this flared pair has a 32.5-inch inseam that's longer than most others on our list. This makes them one of our top picks for tall wearers. However, they aren't available in any shorter inseams, meaning some may find them a bit too long. (Luckily, lululemon can hem any pair of leggings for free in-store.)

Pros

Cons

If you prefer cropped flare leggings, we recommend the chic and cozy Groove Super-High-Rise Crop. We love the shorter, unique silhouette, which sets these apart from the other pairs on our list.

We noted that these are soft, smooth, and almost weightless. We liked the super-high-rise waistband because it didn’t gap, although it did slip down slightly after long periods of wear. We also loved the loose fit, which isn’t compressive, but still provides some shaping.

We did see some pilling between the inner thighs after a few sessions in the washer and dryer, so it’s probably best to line dry these. Comfortable and available in a range of modern, neutral colors and patterns, this pair is a solid pick for lounging or low-impact exercise, like walking on treadmills or core-training on balance boards. And although we didn't test these, a full-length pair is also available.

lululemon’s Contour Fit offers a different hip-to-waist ratio than the rest of their leggings. The waistband is narrower, so there’s no gapping, and there’s more room in the hips and thighs for a better fit. While the brand offers a variety of Contour Fit leggings, the Wunder Train Contour Fit High-Rise Tight is our favorite.

We loved this pair because they're supportive and didn’t budge, without feeling overly tight. We also liked how easily they wicked away sweat. Plus, the smooth material and unique fit created a flattering shape we loved.

While we found that these leggings held up well after being washed and dried, we wished they had more pockets. These leggings are good for training and other high-impact activities—and they pair nicely with the Wunder Train Cropped Long Sleeve Shirt, too.

Pros
  • Silky, breathable material

  • Ultra-comfortable

  • Durable

Cons
  • May not be compressive enough for some

  • May be too long for some

Most lululemon leggings have high-rise waistbands. For even more support, we recommend a super-high-rise pair, like the brand's Groove Super-High-Rise Flared Pant Nulu. Besides the flattering, flared silhouette, we love that these leggings feature lululemon's signature, lightweight Nulu fabric. They're also completely squat-proof, despite how thin they are.

Breathable, silky soft, and ultra-comfortable, we've worn them for everything from low-impact workouts to long flights. We found that they don't have enough compression for running or intense cardio, but the lightweight design is ideal for walking and yoga. (It's also worth noting that we sized down in these leggings, since they're not as compressive as others on our list.)

Like the Groove High-Rise Split-Hem Flared Pant Nulu, these leggings have a 32.5-inch inseam that may be too long for some wearers. But if you're taller and often have issues finding leggings that are truly ankle- or floor-length, we highly recommend these. Choose from a range of bright and pastel shades to match the rest of your athleisure wardrobe.

lululemon Leggings We Also Tested

We've tested many lululemon leggings (both in the lab and in the real world), but only a select few made it onto our list. While we did find a few features to love, this pair didn't stack up against the rest:

  • The Align High-Rise Mini-Flared Pant is made with the same soft, comfortable Nulu fabric that lululemon's Align collection is known for. Although we like their fit and superior breathability, they didn't pass our durability test—after a few washes and wears, one pair developed a run and a hole.

How We Selected and Tested the Best lululemon Leggings

We test lululemon leggings regularly, both in The Verywell Testing Lab and in the real world. Whenever we test a new pair, we first bring them into the Lab and try them on to assess how they fit. We also complete a short circuit workout, doing squats and other exercises to see whether the leggings shift or roll down while we move. We pay attention to the opacity, too, checking to see if our underwear lines or pattern are noticeable through the fabric.

Then, we bring the leggings home and wear them for a few weeks as part of our regular routines. We exercise, walk, travel, and run errands in them. And we make sure to complete a variety of high-impact and low-impact workouts to decide which activity each pair is best for.

Throughout the testing period, we note how comfortable and breathable they are. We keep track of any wear and tear, including how they hold up after multiple washes. To measure the fabrics’ sweat-wicking abilities, we apply water to the inside of the leggings and assess how well the fabric absorbed it.

At the end of each test, we evaluate every pair of leggings on a scale of 1 (would not recommend) to 5 (would recommend) in six key attributes: material, opacity, fit, hold, durability, and overall value. We also ask experts like Ingrid S. Clay, creator of ISC Wellness and PROPTA-certified personal trainer, for their opinions on which features every pair of lululemon leggings should have to guide our final recommendations.

What to Look For in lululemon Leggings

Five key features to look for in leggings.

Verywell Fit / Michelle Parente

When shopping for lululemon leggings, first consider your workout routine and which kinds of activities you like to do most often. Leggings best suited for running are different than leggings best suited for yoga. Consider the type of fabric, including the thickness and compression, along with the fit or cut of the leggings. Additional features you'll want to check are the rise of the waistband, the inseam length, and how many pockets the leggings have (if any).

Fabric

lululemon leggings are made of a variety of signature fabrics, each serving its purpose:

Luon is a comfy, cottony soft fabric with four-way stretch and sweat-wicking breathability. It has a soft, lightly-brushed feel and is best suited for lower-impact studio classes like yoga, Pilates, barre, and casual wear.

Luxtreme is a compressive fabric that feels silky smooth and cool to the touch, fitting like a second skin. This supportive, sweat-wicking fabric features four-way stretch with excellent shape retention. The lightweight fabric is highly resistant to pilling and is a strong choice for high-impact workouts. The Swift Speed High-Rise Tight is made from silky Luxtreme.

Everlux is lululemon’s fastest-drying fabric, best for hot and sweaty studio classes and high-intensity workouts. The sleek and cool sensation on the inside wicks away sweat with a comfortable, buttery soft exterior. Everlux is super lightweight, stretchy, durable, and provides squat-proof coverage. High-performance Everlux makes the Invigorate High-Rise Tight extra sturdy.

Nulu is known for its "naked sensation." The weightless, buttery-soft fabric fits like a glove and is ultra-lightweight and breathable. It also offers unbelievable stretch and shape retention. Nulu is not a compressive fabric and is best for lower-impact workouts and casual wear. Nulu fabric makes the Groove Super-High-Rise Crop comfortable and cozy. Due to the delicate nature of the material, high-friction activities—like vigorous running—can cause the fabric to pill. The feather-light fabric has a soft, brushed feel and delivers unmatched comfort.

Nulux fabric is engineered for running with a weightless, ultra-soft feel. The stretchy, quick-drying fabric is soft and smooth against the skin with light compression and support. It's also durable, flexible, and supportive so you can run your best race with comfort and ease. The Fast and Free High-Rise Crop is made from durable Nulux.

SmoothCover is a soft, supportive, matte fabric that effortlessly forms to your body. Four-way stretch and sweat-wicking properties ensure you’ll stay dry and comfortable, even during the toughest workouts. SmoothCover helps give the InStill High-Rise Crop its great coverage.

SenseKnit features targeted support right where you need it the most. Meant for running, this fabric is sweat-wicking and quick-drying. It’s lightweight enough to keep you cool and will perform well, no matter how many miles you take on. The SenseKnit High-Rise Running Crop combines all of these features in one breathable pair of leggings.

Fabric Variations

Some of lululemon’s signature fabrics are offered in different versions. For example, Luon and Luxtreme are also available in regular and Full-On variations. Full-On means the material has a tighter weave, delivering slightly more compression and coverage.

Rise

lululemon leggings come in mid-rise, high-rise, and super-high-rise. The rise refers to how far up the waistband comes when you put the leggings on. The higher the rise, the higher up the waistband will sit. Higher rise leggings will also offer more support, since the waistband comes up farther. Choose the rise that reflects the style and level of support you like the most.

Length

The inseam length determines how long the leggings will be. lululemon offers a range of inseam lengths, to help you find the right fit. Cropped styles range from 17- to 23-inch inseams. Ankle to full-length styles range from 25- to 31-inch inseams, depending on your height. Signature styles are also offered in shorts with inseams between 4 and 10 inches.

Fit

lululemon leggings may be high quality, but you won’t enjoy wearing them unless they fit correctly. Most of the brand’s leggings fit true to size. If you’re wary of ordering a pair online, you can use lululemon’s size chart to see which leggings will fit you the best. You can also book an appointment online to video chat with an educator who can help you find your size.

Leggings should be fitted, but not so tight that you can’t move easily in them. Make sure the waistband and legs are comfortable, and that they don’t dig into your skin. Leggings that are too small will also look shiny on the thighs and may be too sheer around your knees and butt.

Leggings that are too big may fall or slip down while you wear them. The waistband should sit flush against your waist, with no gaping. Unless the leggings are specifically designed to have a relaxed fit or flared legs, they should also be snug against your legs.

Pockets

Pockets in workout wear serve many functions. Plenty of lululemon leggings come with one or more pockets, so you can choose the pair that meets your needs for whatever you need to carry. Waistband pockets are typically for small items, like a key or credit card, and can keep items hidden and well-secured. Drop-in pockets on the sides or back are often large enough to hold your phone or other items you want to keep with you. Some leggings have zippered or fold-over pockets for added security.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What can you expect to pay for lululemon leggings?

lululemon leggings typically cost between $98-$158. They are by no means the cheapest leggings on the market, but our testers think they're worth the price given the quality and durability of the materials and the glove-like fit. The cheapest lululemon leggings on our list—Base Pace High-Rise Crop 17"—cost $88, while our best overall pick, the Align High Rise Pant with Pockets, ranged between $128 and $138 when we published this list. You can also find deals in the "Like New" section of the brand's website.

  • Which lululemon leggings have the most compression?

lululemon designs certain pairs of leggings to have more compression than others. Some are made using what they call a “hugged sensation,” meaning they come in tight silhouettes that provide consistent compression all over.

The brand also makes some leggings using a “held-in sensation,” which means they have compression specifically around the abs, hips, butt, and thighs. Leggings made from Luxtreme fabric, like the All the Right Places High-Rise Drawcord Waist Crop, will usually offer this kind of compression.

  • What is the warranty on lululemon leggings?

The beloved yoga athletic apparel company prides itself on the lasting quality and performance of its gear. While lululemon does not have a lifetime warranty, each situation is evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

lululemon's Quality Promise covers manufacturing defects. However, it does not cover accidental damage, natural wear and tear, fit, or preference. Full-priced leggings can be returned within a 30-day window. They must be unworn, unwashed, and have both the rip tag and hang tag intact.

  • Will lululemon replace leggings with a hole in them?

The company’s Quality Promise only covers manufacturing defects, not accidental damage or wear and tear. Holes in the fabric or pilling cannot be repaired, but a ripped seam may be considered as part of lululemon’s complimentary hemming service. It’s important to note that not all repairs are honored, as some older models may use discontinued fabrics and stitching styles. If the hole is due to a manufacturing defect, lululemon will gladly replace your gear.

  • What size lululemon leggings am I?

Most shoppers say that lululemon leggings run true to size. In styles with less compression, we've found you can also try one size down from your usual. For a full view of lululemon’s size guidelines, refer to the brand’s size chart. Or, you can book a video chat appointment with a lululemon educator who can help you find your size.

  • Do lululemon leggings run small?

Each lululemon fabric has unique properties that provide a particular fit, feel, performance, and silhouette. Some people prefer sizing up in lululemon’s more compressive fabrics, like Luxtreme and Everlux, while some prefer to size down in less compressive fabrics like Nulu. For a full view of lululemon’s size guidelines, refer to the size chart
