There are scales that measure your water weight , scales that connect to fancy apps, and scales that help you design fitness goals. Then there’s this scale. The EatSmart Precision Digital Bathroom Scale is just that: a scale. It tells you your weight, and not much else, but sometimes that’s all you need. Setup Process: Just add batteries and calibrate Out of the box, this scale only needs batteries and a quick calibration before it’s ready to go. It comes with four AAA batteries, which you’ll need to insert yourself. Once inserted, the 3.5-inch LCD (liquid crystal display) screen lights up. The scale defaults to pounds, but you can switch the unit to kilograms or stones by moving the switch on the bottom of the scale.
To calibrate, place the scale on a hard, even surface, and then step on. The number will not be accurate yet. After stepping off, the screen displays “CAL” for a few seconds to indicate that it’s calibrating. Once the scale shuts itself off, you can step on and weigh yourself normally.
If you find yourself with further questions, you can refer to the included user manual. We were happy to have it in order to understand the calibration process; otherwise, we would have been surprised by the first weigh result.
Design: Tempered glass The scale consists of clear, non-slip tempered glass on top of metal feet, with an LCD display that glows bright blue when in use. Tempered glass means that it’s stronger than other glass and also won’t result in dangerous shards if it breaks. Still, it was unnerving to step onto the 8-millimeter-thick platform, as it felt slightly unsteady underfoot. While it should be safe at least up to 400 pounds, there are quite a few reviews that mention that the glass randomly shattered, either while in use or not.

Performance: Measures weight up to 400 pounds The EatSmart Precision Digital Bathroom Scale does just one thing: measures weight up to 400 pounds. Unlike other scales that need a quick tap in order to calibrate, this one automatically calibrates so you can step directly onto it. When finished, it automatically turns off.
Keep in mind that if you move the scale, you’ll need to recalibrate. However, when we picked up and moved the scale, our weight stayed the same. It did not go through the recalibration process. Precision: Within 0.2 pounds As the name implies, the EatSmart Precision Digital Bathroom Scale is designed to be precise. It features four high-gauge precision sensors, which are supposed to provide an accurate weight to the nearest 0.2 pounds.
Overall, we felt the scale gave us correct and reliable results.
We stepped onto the scale multiple times in a row, and we were always shown the same weight. We tried two other scales, and our weight was the same on one and within 0.6 pound of another. Overall, we felt the scale gave us correct and reliable results.
Additional Features: Body measuring tape The scale includes a free EatSmart Body Tape Measure to complement your scale usage. It can be used to track progress like inches gained or lost around different body areas. We found the measuring tape easy to use and can see how it would be an invaluable tool for anyone on a fitness journey.
This scale isn’t expensive, but when you consider what it can do—or more accurately, can’t do—it feels like too much.
Battery: Four AAA batteries This scale uses four AAA batteries, which are included in the box. According to the user manual, you can expect the batteries to last around a year with moderate use, which it defines as less than three times daily. The included batteries, however, are “trial batteries,” which the manual says may last a shorter length of time. When the scale displays “LO” you’ll know the batteries need to be replaced.
Price: Around $25 The EatSmart scale retails for around $25, but it can be found for less. Generally speaking, this scale isn’t expensive, but when you consider what it can do—or more accurately, can’t do—it feels like too much. If you spend just $10 more, you can have a scale that connects with your phone via Bluetooth and measures full body composition. EatSmart Precision Digital Bathroom vs. Greater Goods Digital Body Weight Bathroom Scale We also tried the Greater Good Digital Body Weight Bathroom Scale , another simple scale that measures only weight and features auto calibration. While the function of each was comparable, the design is quite different. And on design, we prefer the Greater Goods scale, which is much more low-profile than the EatSmart scale. As a bonus, the Greater Goods scale is around $5 to $10 dollars cheaper and comes with a limited five-year manufacturer’s warranty, too.
Final Verdict There are better options out there.
There’s nothing particularly wrong with this scale, but there’s nothing too exciting about it, either. Especially when you consider that for just a little more, you can pick up a scale that connects to your phone and measures data like body fat, this scale doesn’t seem that impressive. Of course, if you don’t want all that, this scale—or another like it—will do just fine.
