Therabody TheraFace Pro

Skincare tools are becoming increasingly popular in the skincare industry, as users look for new ways to address a range of skin types and concerns.

From Therabody, the company that makes the ever-popular Theragun massage gun, the TheraFace Pro is a unique device that features percussive massage for the face. It also comes with six attachments, including cleansing, microcurrent, and LED light therapy rings to help users work toward a variety of skincare goals. The device was made for those looking to target specific skin concerns or anyone who wants a relaxing upgrade to their self-care routine.

To find out whether the TheraFace Pro deserved a permanent place on my bathroom counter, I used the device for five weeks, rotating between attachments and following Therabody’s suggested routines.

Who It’s For

If you’re looking to splurge on an innovative and effective skincare device, the TheraFace Pro is for you. While it is expensive, the results speak for themselves. It’s also great for those in search of an upgrade to their skincare routine, since it offers several treatments and benefits in one easy-to-use, sleek, efficient device.

Ease of Use: Seamless and intuitive

When my TheraFace Pro device first arrived, I was initially wary after examining all of its attachments. I consider myself pretty well-versed in skincare, but I had never seen or used a device with this many settings before.

With that being said, upon further inspection, I determined that the TheraFace Pro is intuitive enough for beginners and experienced users alike. It arrives packaged with a handy manual that explains how to use the device, including safety information and notes on each attachment. It also directs you to the manufacturer's website, where you’ll find even more details like clinical results, treatment protocols, and useful instructional videos

Watching Therabody’s how-to guides and routines was the key to getting the most out of the device. Each helpful and intuitive routine uses specific attachments to target various skincare concerns. When I began using my device, I was dealing with some pesky breakouts, so I started with the Clear and Contour routine. After a quick learning curve, I found it was both gentle enough to soothe my skin and effective enough to help clear up my complexion.

I rated the device a perfect score of 5 out of 5 for ease of use because, despite its many attachments and functionalities, the TheraFace Pro is an easy (and fun) way to upgrade your routine. Plus, the how-to-guides and routines left me feeling comfortable and confident with each treatment.

Design: Sleek and ergonomic

Besides its unique and multi-functional design, the TheraFace Pro is so sleek and attractive that I did leave it out on my bathroom countertop. I tested the black version, but the device is also available in a light and airy white.

The aesthetics didn’t disappoint, nor did the product's ergonomic design. The matte handle is smooth and soft to the touch, while the angled head makes it easy to reach all the planes of your face and neck. Plus, toggling between intensities and LED light colors is seamless with the screen and raised buttons on the front of the device (right where my thumb conveniently sat).

I gave TheraFace Pro a 4.5 out of 5 for design. It's attractive and comfortable to use, but the carry case is relatively small. All of the attachments fit in the case, but the device itself did not. It didn't bother me for everyday use (because I stored the device on my bathroom countertop), but for travel this would be a major inconvenience.

Attachments: Effective at targeting a variety of concerns

Although I was intimidated by the large number of attachments at first, I realized that each serves a distinct purpose. The cleansing ring and percussive attachments help remove dead skin cells and reduce muscle tension and pain.

The LED ring uses red, blue, and infrared light to target wrinkles and mild to moderate acne. And for firming, tightening, and contouring, the microcurrent ring (my favorite!) works to lift and tone the face.

Therabody offers two additional attachments, a hot and cold ring, designed to help reduce puffiness and pain while improving radiance. But they’re sold separately, which I did not appreciate—at such a high price point, it was disappointing to see that only some of the attachments come standard with the device.

The TheraFace Pro earned a 4.5 out of 5 for this category. I really enjoyed all of the attachments that the device came with, each one providing a unique and effective treatment. But I was disappointed that the hot and cold rings did not come with the device, which is why I docked a half-point for this attribute.

Cleaning and Care: Quick and simple

When it comes to any skincare device, I am obsessively diligent about cleaning after each use—so purchasing a product with easy care and maintenance is vital. If not cleaned properly, skincare devices and tools can harbor microbes, like bacteria and fungi, that may even lead to disease.

Luckily, cleaning the TheraFace Pro is quick and simple. As per the manufacturer’s instructions, I simply wiped my device and attachments with a damp cloth or an alcohol-free cleansing wipe after each use. Once dried, I placed the device in its stand and zipped the attachments back into the included carrying case.

Cleaning and care earned an easy 5 out of 5. The TheraFace Pro was nearly effortless to maintain, which is so important when it comes to skincare tools and devices.

Effectiveness: Visible results after one use

As a skincare enthusiast, I’ve learned that you can’t expect any cream, serum, mask, or device to magically transform your skin after just one use. Skincare, like fitness, takes consistency and patience to see real results.

But the TheraFace Pro is different. I used the device regularly for over a month, rotating between attachments and sometimes using a few together. While I truly enjoyed every setting, there were a few standouts that produced almost immediate results.

The Cleansing Ring: I’ve used my fair share of cleansing brushes in the past. Throughout my struggles with cystic acne, I leaned on these devices for a deep clean. And, after using the cleansing ring attachment on my TheraFace Pro, I was left wishing it existed during that unfortunate phase.

Unlike other brush or vibrating silicone cleansing devices, this cleansing ring incorporates Therabody’s widely loved percussion therapy as it simultaneously cleanses the skin. It is a truly unique, spa-like experience. After just one use, my skin looked incredibly refreshed and was smooth to the touch. I was left feeling clean, relaxed, and immensely satisfied. Needless to say, it’s one of my favorites, and I continue to use it every day.

The Microcurrent Ring: This was by far my favorite attachment on the TheraFace Pro. I have been eyeing microcurrent devices for several months—but now, I’m confident that I have found one of the top contenders.

After just one use, I noticed a visible difference in how my skin looked and felt. I could see that my jawline and cheekbones looked more defined, contoured, and lifted. My skin also felt more smooth and plump (an unexpected surprise). And, I felt refreshed and relaxed after each session.

Some attachments didn’t provide such rapid results. But they still felt great, and I will continue to use them long-term.

Percussive Therapy Attachments: I don’t suffer from face pain or muscle tension—so while Therabody does say that the TheraFace Pro can provide relief for these concerns, I can’t speak to that personally. However, the percussive therapy attachments have been a welcome addition to my skincare routine over the last month.

LED Ring Light Therapy: According to the American Academy of Dermatology Association, blue, red, and infrared light may help to reduce the appearance of mild to moderate acne long-term. But it's not a miracle solution, and it won’t instantly clear up any breakouts.

Throughout the month of testing my TheraFace Pro, I used the infrared light consistently, switching to the blue light when a breakout appeared. I didn’t notice any immediate improvements, but there is research suggesting that LED light can help soothe mild to moderate acne, along with other skin conditions.

I was pleasantly surprised by TheraFace Pro's overall performance, giving it a perfect score of 5 out of 5 for overall effectiveness. The cleansing and microcurrent rings are true superstars—defying what I know about skincare and delivering real results after just one use. The percussive and LED light therapy attachments weren't as remarkable, but they have been a much-appreciated addition to my skincare rotation.

How We Tested

To evaluate the usability, design, performance, and overall value of the TheraFace Pro, I tested the device for over a month. I tried each attachment individually and followed specific routines offered in Therabody’s how-to guides that align with my skincare concerns and goals.

I used the TheraFace Pro for about 10 minutes, three to four times per week, for a period of five weeks. I noted my experience during each treatment and any visible results after each use.

Price: Expensive, but splurge-worthy facial device

Retailing for $399 (plus another $99 if you want the Hot and Cold Rings), the TheraFace Pro is a high-priced facial device that, while unique, innovative, and effective, is not a vital component of a skincare routine. Your routine is not incomplete or lacking without this device—it’s simply an extra accessory.

But if you are in the market for a facial device that has it all, this is it. The TheraFace Pro is an eight-in-one device that delivers unique treatments, real results, and restorative relaxation. If you’re looking to splurge on an effective device, the TheraFace Pro is worth it to level-up your self-care routine.

The Competition:

Now, more than ever, people are investing in at-home facial treatments and skincare tools. With skincare becoming increasingly popular across social media platforms, well-known brands are rapidly releasing innovative devices.

Solawave’s Advanced Skincare Wand: This skincare wand uses red-light therapy, microcurrent, gentle facial massage, and therapeutic warmth to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, dark circles, blemishes, and dark spots. It’s a small but powerful tool, and over $200 less expensive than the TheraFace. But the TheraFace offers more than just red-light therapy, with over eight treatments in one device.

NuFace’s Facial Toning Device: If you’re a fan of facial tools, you may already have heard of NuFace’s Facial Toning Device. It’s a microcurrent device that tones, lifts, and contours the facial muscles—similar to the microcurrent ring attachment on the TheraFace Pro. If you’re simply looking for an at-home microcurrent facial, this is a great option. But you can get a lot more from the TheraFace Pro, and for less, making it a better bang for your buck.

Foreo Luna Cleansing Device: The popular Luna Cleansing Device from Foreo has made a name for itself in many skincare communities. It works to remove dirt and debris from the skin, leaving you smooth and fresh after each cleanse—just like the cleansing ring attachment on the TheraFace Pro. This device is over $100 less expensive, so if you want a device just for cleansing, then the Foreo Luna may be right for you. But it doesn’t offer any of the other treatments that are included with the TheraFace Pro.

Final Verdict

Yes, buy it if you’re looking to upgrade your skincare routine.

The TheraFace Pro is a unique facial tool that offers eight treatments, including percussive therapy for the face—mimicking Therabody’s popular Theragun massage gun. It can be used to target skin and facial concerns like acne, wrinkles, and muscle tension. And, includes a microcurrent attachment to help lift, tone, and contour the face.

It’s important to note that your skincare routine is not lacking without this product. But, the TheraFace Pro does deliver real results. So if you’re looking to target specific concerns or level-up your routine with a splurge-worthy product, consider making the investment.
